Mandatory practices begin

MOUNT CARMEL — The Mount Carmel Area football team has canceled its season.

The announcement, released Tuesday afternoon, cites an ongoing hazing investigation as the reason for the cancellation.

“The decision was reached in response to an ongoing internal school district and Mount Carmel Township police investigation into hazing allegations involving members of the football team at an off-school district campus gathering,” the announcement reads from administration, the school board and the varsity football coaching staff.

“This is obviously a heartbreaking decision,” it continues. “Moving forward, we will continue to provide resources and counseling to all those that are impacted.

“Finally, due to the confidential nature of the district and police investigation, no other information can be provided by our school district at this time.”

Athletic director Greg Sacavage, who released the statement to members of the press, stated, “It is with deep regret and anguish that I must report that the Mount Carmel Area football team will end its season ...”
