LEWISBURG — Among the best the area has to offer, Lewisburg sophomore Kalyn Fisher stands alone.
Fisher, Standard Journal’s Spring Sports Athlete of the Year, holds area bests in the 800 and 400 and was also a member of both the 3200 and 1600 relay teams. More importantly she has the state hardware to back up her reputation as one of the best scholastic mid-distance runners in Pennsylvania, and the nation.
The Green Dragons standout won PIAA Class AA gold in the 800, as anchor of the 3200 relay and took silver as anchor of the 1600 relay.
Her 800 gold-medal time of 2:12.35  ranks her third overall in the state behind national record-holder Chanelle Price and Chester’s Shaniel Chambers, both of whom competed in the Class AAA race.
Fisher’s best time in the 400, 58.36, run at the Bald Eagle Invitational at Lock Haven was good enough to put her in the top-40 in the state as well.  Fisher did not run the 400 at the District 4 Class AA Championship, but did take home gold in the event at the last Susquehanna Valley League Championship meet.
In fact, gold was the color of the year for Fisher, who went home with a total of four gold medals (400, 800, 1600 relay, 3200 relay) from the SVL meet and a perfect 3-for-3 (800, 1600 relay, 3200 relay) at the district championships.
The sophomore was never beaten in the 800 all spring, winning every race she entered, including the Susquehanna Classic, the Bald Eagle Invitational and the Bruce Dallas Invitational.
At the season-opening Bruce Dallas event she set the meet record in the 800 with a time of 2:21.47.
Fisher ended her season ranked 43rd in the nation in the 800.
Fisher joins Fall Sports Athlete of the Year Casey Miller of Lewisburg and Winter Sports Athlete of the Year Derek Reber of Lewisburg as the Standard Journal’s selections as best in their scholastic seasons. The overall Standard Journal Athlete of the Year will be named in the coming weeks.
