Dakotah Snyder

Lewsiburg’s Dakotah Snyder pitched 1 2/3 innings against Line Mountain and struck out two against no walks and just one hit allowed. Snyder also went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

MANDATA — Line Mountain’s Colton Schwartz hit a two-out, RBI single in the seventh inning as Post 504 upended Lewisburg, 8-7, in an opening game of the Region V Division 2 Tournament at Line Mountain High School.

Schwartz brought home Griffin Smeltz to send Line Mountain into a winner’s bracket matchup against Mifflinburg at 1:45 p.m. today.

Lewisburg (9-4) falls into the elimination bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will play the loser of Friday’s other game between Hughesville and Mansfield at 10:30 a.m. today.

Both games will be played at Hughesville’s Bodine Park.

Lewisburg led three different times in the contest — first after opening the game on a sacrifice fly to center by Dakotah Snyder that plated Andrew Ramirez.

Two errors in the bottom of the first gave Line Mountain a 2-1 lead, but Post 182 tied the game an inning later on Jacob Brooks’ solo home run to left field.

The back-and-forth affair continued after another error by Lewisburg in the bottom of the second helped Line Mountain go back in front, 3-2.

However, Post 182 pulled ahead 4-3 in the fourth on an Andrew Ramirez two-run single. Dustin Terry and Jack Landis scored on the hit.

Post 504 retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth on Keefer Neidig’s two-run homer to left, but Post 182 would tie the game at 5 as Terry hit an RBI single to plate Brett Herman.

A two-run single by Seth Wolfe in the fifth put Line Mountain back in front, 7-5, only to see Lewisburg come back again to tie the game behind a Herman sac fly in the sixth and an RBI single by Snyder in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh Post 504 put the go-ahead runner on base when Smeltz walked, stole second and scored on Schwartz’s hard ground ball to center.

Lewisburg used three pitchers in the game — Jack Landis, Snyder and Aaron Hoover — with Hoover suffering the loss despite striking out five and allowing just one earned run in his 1.2 innings of work.

Herman led Post 182 with a 3-for-4 day that included an RBI and a run scored, plus Snyder went 2-for-4 and had a pair of RBI for Lewisburg, which also got a 2-for-3 effort from Terry.
