SHAMOKIN — The Bernie Romanoski Sr. Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame has announced its annual induction ceremony has been postponed until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The ceremonies, which were scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Masser’s Banquet Hall in Paxinos, will now be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the same location, starting with a buffet-style breakfast.
Inductees include Bobby Jones and Lanny Conner from Southern Columbia Area High School, Scott Kurtz from Shamokin Area High School, Jim “Juice” Letcavage from Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School, and Mike Shingara from Line Mountain High School.
The chapter also will honor members of the 1966 Southern Columbia Area High School football team who captured the Susquehanna Valley League championship.
Other special award winners are Southern Columbia seniors Gaige Garcia and Rilyn Wisloski (Charles Nesbitt Sportsmanship Awards); Southern Columbia seniors Lear Quinton and Gina Gratti (Joseph Bordell Scholar-Athlete Awards); Marc Longenhagen (Edward Binkoski Coaching Award); the late Don Traugh (Francis “Moto” Gurski Community Service Award), and Susette Wertman (Harvey Boughner Booster Award).
The Joseph Bordell Scholar-Athlete Awards and Charles Nesbitt Sportsmanship Awards will be presented to the Southern Columbia Area seniors at school assemblies. Gaige Garcia also will be presented a special award for winning his second consecutive gold medal in the PIAA state wrestling championships. The state champion will receive the honor at a school assembly.
