In striking down a recent pro-life law in Louisiana by a 5-4 vote Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts joined the liberals of the court. Roberts deciding vote underscores that Roe v. Wade will never be overturned during his tenure.
So much for the leftist fear about the end of abortion.
The court’s next 5-4 decision saved a Montana scholarship program used for a Christian school. “A State need not subsidize private education,” Roberts writes for the majority. “But once a State decides to do so, it cannot disqualify some private schools solely because they are religious.”
According to the Wall Street Journal in 2015, Montana conferred a $150 tax credit to those who donate to a nonprofit scholarship fund, which then endows the monies to students.
Many states have similar programs.
The Montana case is one that would have gone the other way had Hillary Clinton replaced the late Antonin Scalia. This decision was a loss for the educational establishment, but a big win for education by helping parents send their children to the school of their choice.
Like it or not, abortion and education are the civil rights issues of our generation. The sooner society realizes and accepts this, the betterment for our overall national health.
Those that avoided the abortionists’ scalpel are most likely handcuffed to a union dominated, failing public school system that precludes them the opportunity to fulfill their potential. Democrats, who claim to be the champions of minorities, have fought school vouchers on every front since their inception in order to appease the unions who continue to fund their campaigns.
When available, vouchers offer educational opportunities for low-income students and in so doing have established a successful record of accomplishment. Vouchers also provide parents a choice for the education that best fits their child’s particular needs.
Leftists only support choice when a woman chooses to abort her child’s beating heart.
Many awful public schools are in cities and states run by Democrats that have entangled children in an expensive and failing system. Democrats underscore where their true loyalties remain and it is not with the children who need a good education to escape lousy neighborhoods. Rather, they are complicit in confining children to failing schools and, by extension, failed lives.
The socialist fiefdoms and feudal lords of public education know all too well that a good education, as opposed to socialist brainwashing, is the key to getting people off the Democrat plantation. Leftist politicians and the public teachers’ unions fear that most and prefer that parents stay muted and maintain the status quo.
If you claim to support equality for all, how can you not support educational vouchers?
The National Education Association comprehend vouchers as threat number one to their educational monopoly that has produced inferior results and at higher costs resulting in yearly tax increases that many on fixed incomes have difficulty paying.
A generation of American young people have been radicalized in our public schools. Believing that America is evil that our Founding Fathers were racists and people should be judged by the color of their skin.
Many of the anarchists presently rioting were educated in American public schools and have no clue what the statues they topple and deface represent, or the reasoning behind their longstanding presence.
The argument against school choice and vouchers like that of “separation of church and state” was always a false and purposely misleading narrative. The voucher goes to the taxpaying parents who then chooses how best to educate their child. This Supreme Court ruling is a clear-cut statement by the conservative members that black lives matter.
Truth to power, all lives matter especially those in their mother’s wombs.
Vouchers are the best and easiest way to assuage the draconian teachers’ union and remove the government lordship in education. Civility will be the norm when we harvest the fruit of a knowledgeable, critical-thinking generation where destruction of private property, historic statues, rioting and looting will be nothing short of what it is – abhorrent.
All schools should compete for students based on merit, not venue.
Last month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the largest voucher expansion to date.
May this Supreme Court ruling inspire other state legislatures to follow suit.
