Charles Hartung, 81, of Lewisburg passed away on May 9th, 2008 at his home.
Charles was a man of vision. He was a Conservationist and Naturalist focused on the environment and how it effects future generations. Besides recycling long before it was popular, he also rode his bike to work instead of driving. He grew trees from seed, then planting them all over Lewisburg. Through his foresight, trees now shade the tennis courts and our community pool area.
His intrigue with camera lenses at age 12, lead to courses in lens grinding. He served under General Patton in the Army and through the GI bill, he became an Optometrist. He was devoted to giving his patients all the care and attention they needed for better vision.
He enjoyed making pottery on his own wheel and made lead-free glazes. His passion for basketry and water-color painting soon followed. He shared these skills as a volunteer teacher at Bucknell University.
He was a faithful husband, father to 3 children and grandfather to 6. He lived and taught about the basic rules of life: enjoy what you have and be respectful by giving back to nature and those in need. His intense love for nature has influenced his family to carry on his values.
He believed that God had directed his purpose in life and embraced his faith to see him through to the end.
Services will be held at Christ Wesleyan Church, Milton, Pa. on Thursday, May 15, 2008.
Visitation at 5:00 p.m. will be followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m.
