ANDERSON, Ind. -

 James Fessenden Reynolds, 80, of Anderson, Ind., died at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital, ending a long struggle with cancer.
Born July 3, 1927 in Milton, he was a son of the late George and Sarah Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds was married to Harriet Ethel Showers Reynolds for 58 years.
 He graduated from Milton High School, and in June 1949 from Bucknell University with honors as a chemical engineer.  He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Alpha Sigma Chi, and Phi Eta Sigma fraternities, and the American Chemical Society.
Mr. Reynolds worked for 10 years for Dow Chemical Co. in Midland, Mich., and later spent 27 years with Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Ind.  He finished his career with Haarmann and Reimer in Springfield, N.J.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas Kelly Reynolds of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Ann and Rod Rogers of Anderson, Elizabeth Kay Reynolds of Ft. Wayne, and Barbara Ellen and Thomas Shanahan of West Carrolton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Brian Thomas Reynolds and wife Shawn of Niles, Mich., Stephanie Elizabeth Reynolds of Mishawka, Ind., Matthew Ryan Whitesel of New York City, Kristen Rebekah Whitesel of Fishers, Ind., Katie Rochelle Rector and husband Joe of Anderson and Emily Ann Shanahan of West Carrolton; two step granddaughters, Kim Rogers Hatfield and husband Steve of Anderson and Krista Robinette and husband Brian of Webster Groves, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Tammy and Shelby of Niles; and two step great-grandchildren, Trevor and Austin of Webster Groves.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Reynolds was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Lester Reynolds.
Funeral services will be held in Indiana on Sunday; and locally at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. Officiating will be the Rev. Patricia A. Bennett and interment will be made in the Harmony Cemetery, Milton.
Friends and relatives will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Cedarville University, Willets Hall Project, 510 Richie Drive, West Carrolton, Ohio 45449. This project is a retrofit of two dorm rooms into a handicapped accessible suite where his granddaughter, Emily, is a student with cerebral palsy.
 It was his desire to add a ceiling lift system to this room for Emily and eventually other future students with special needs.
