The Rev. Jerry L. Caswell

WATSONTOWN — The Rev. Jerry L. Caswell, 79, of Voris Lane, Watsontown, went to be with his Lord and savior on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where he had been a medical patient.

Born June 20, 1938, in Bowerston, Ohio, he was the son of the late John and E. Lucille (Thompson) Caswell. On June 11, 1965, he married the former Ruth Ann Keifer and they had celebrated 52 years of marriage.

A veteran of the US Navy from 1958 to 1962, he served on the USS Constitution in Boston and also the USS Intrepid, and was a vocal soloist and played the trumpet in the Naval School of Music and Unit Band.

He was a graduate of Bob Jones University, South Carolina, and served in the ministry in six different states. In 1966 he was the music director and assistant pastor in Sioux City. He began serving as pastor in Canby, Minn., then served in Canton, S.D., later in Mansfield, Ohio, and in Georgia until coming to Pennsylvania in 1977 to the Turbotville Independent Baptist Church.

In 1979 he organized Friendship Baptist Church, meeting in the YMCA in Milton until relocating to their current log church location near McEwensville in 1990.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Stephen and his wife Denise Caswell of Phoenix, Ariz., James and his wife Tammy Caswell of Watsontown, Daniel Caswell of Watsontown and Mark and his wife Teresa Caswell of Marino Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Janelle Phillips of Dewart; and 10 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were a brother, John Caswell and two sisters, Virginia Reeves and Betty Incarnato.

Friends and family are invited to call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, 10 Voris Lane, Watsontown, where the funeral service will be held at 11 with Pastor Jason King officiating, assisted by the Rev. Daniel Reeder. Burial will follow on the church property.

In lieu of flowers, it was Pastor Caswell’s request that any contributions in his memory be made to the Missions funds through Friendship Baptist Church.
