MILTON — Jean R. Bankert, 92, of Milton, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at the Milton Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born Feb. 26, 1927, in Chicora, she was the daughter of the late Carl W. and Ruth (Burkhart) Isenberg. She was married to David Bankert. Together they celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Jean was a 1944 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She had worked for the Sunbury Daily Item from 1959 to 1971 as a copy writer and for the Milton Standard from 1971 to 1987 retiring as supervisor of the composing room.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in New Columbia where she sang in the choir and played the piano when needed.
She was a member of Turbot Hills Golf Club. She enjoyed knitting and cooking.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, John Bankert and his wife Leesa of Columbia, S.C. and Carl Bankert and his wife Sally of State College; two grandsons, J. Michael Bankert and his wife Rhiannon, and Jason Bankert and his wife Teresa; and five great-grandchildren, Gianna Bankert, Isaac Bankert, Vincent Bankert, Liam Bankert and Grant Bankert.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Anne Graybill.
Following Jean’s wishes private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
