DANVILLE — Sara Lorene Herman Crossley, 91, of Danville, Pa., passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Grandview Health Homes Inc., Danville, Pa. She was born April 20, 1928, in Danville, Pa., the daughter of the of late Morgan John and Margaret Kashner Herman.
Her family began the Herman Dairy Farm in Mahoning Township which was well known for horse and buggy milk delivery for many years. Sara rode along on the back of the buggy before being dropped off at school where she often reminisced about knowing each and every neighbor along the milk route.
She was married for 69 years to the love of her life, the late Elijah Grant Crossley who preceded her in death November 29, 2016. They were married December 31, 1947.
Sara was a devoted homemaker for most of her life. She worked at Bloomsburg Carpet Industries in Bloomsburg for several years, from where she retired in 1991.
She was a member of St. Paul’s “Straub’s” Lutheran Church in Danville, Pa.
Sara’s life was centered around her home and her family. Her passion in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Sara taught her children the values of a simple life which included local carnivals and fairs and many car rides throughout Pennsylvania which resulted in memorable impromptu picnics. Her family continues these traditions to this day.
Sara is survived by children: Louise Nogle and her husband John of Danville; Margaret “Peg” Garman and her husband Richard of Danville; Wallace Crossley and his wife Dani of Bloomsburg; Susan “Kathy” Hendricks and her husband Daryl of Shoemakersville, Pa., Carol Kneezle and her husband Orville of Berwick and David Crossley and his wife Linda of Danville. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Thomas and his wife Lois Herman of Danville, Pa., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sara was preceded in death by two brothers: John Herman and James Herman; and four sisters, Ruth Krum, Anna Phillips, Mildred Hawk and Mary Cooke.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Sara’s Life to be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s “Straub’s” Lutheran Church, 639 Frosty Valley Road, Danville Pa. with Pastor Joel Zeiders officiating. Friends will be received Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Straub’s Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, 57 North Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre Pa. 18701-1309.
