MILTON — Robert E. “Bob” Smith, 69, of Carpenter Road, Milton, died Monday, April 8, 2019 at his home.

Born Dec. 13, 1949, in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Jay G. and Shirley (Caris) Smith. He was married on April 24, 1971, to the former Jeanne Miller who survives.

A 1967 graduate of Milton High School, he served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. America, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and in Norfolk, Va.

Mr. Smith was a member of West Milton United Methodist Church. He worked as a banker at West Milton State Bank and Milton Savings Bank, retiring from there in 2011. He was a member of the L& B Gospel music group and he played guitar for special music in various area churches.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; a daughter, Amy E. Smith of Crofton, Md.; a brother, Ronnie Smith and wife Janet of McDonough, Ga.; three sisters, Patricia Blyler and Husband Fred of Hanover, Nancy Bergerstock of Lewisburg and Janet Reich and husband Dennis “Poke” of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Robert Smith; a brother, Terry Smith; and a brother-in-law, Archie Bergerstock.

Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the West Milton United Methodist Church, 310 High St., West Milton, where a memorial service will be held at 11 with Pastor Christine Mastin officiating. Burial will be held privately.
