In a house with kids in it, there’s never a dull moment. There’s always a sippy cup to fill, a dispute to mitigate, a favorite story to read or game to play.
Some local mothers were afforded the chance to relax and spend a little quality time with their kids Friday afternoon in Kristin Barr’s kindergarten class at Montandon Elementary School.
Barr said her students spent the last two weeks preparing for the special Mother’s Day Tea.
Collectively, the students wrote a poem for their mothers, titled “I Love My Mom,” offered some songs and told the mothers gathered in the classroom “I love you” using sign language.
“We appreciate what moms do, and they deserve a day to come in and spend time with us,” Barr said.
“Thank you so much for everything you do,” she said to the attendees.
The “tea” was actually comprised of root beer floats and snacks, because tea is boring, according to the students, something kids are most certainly not.
The mothers in attendance agreed.
“It’s busy and exciting; there’s never a dull moment,” said Jennifer Murphy, who came to see her son, Bradley. “But, it’s very rewarding.
“There’s always something to do; I’m never bored,” said Jennifer Jenkins, spending time with her daughter, Madison.
Carrie Maines said being a mom makes her feel needed, and she knows her hard work is appreciated.
In the days leading up to the “tea,” some of the mothers said their kids couldn’t hide their excitement for Friday — by their expressions, the way they’d walk in the door and sing.
The kids were truly excited about having their moms. All had their own reasons why they love their moms and what makes them so special.
Bradley Murphy said his mom let’s him wash the dishes and sometimes eat some cookies. Madison Jenkins said her mom sings her lullabies. Her mom added they also sing Christmas songs while driving — all year long.
Brandon Maines said he and his mom also sing, and she lets him mow the grass and even stay up late sometimes.
Xavier Dreese indicated his mom, Deniel, is a good snuggler.
So, here’s to you, Mom.
