Mifflinburg man awarded Quilt of Valor

Veteran Kyle Whittaker, of Mifflinburg, was recently awarded a Quilt of Valor in honor and recognition of his service to our country. Whittaker served in the Army National Guard from 1998-2007. He received airborne training and served with the 104th Cavalry Detachment out of Fort Indiantown Gap. In 2002, he went to Bosnia as part of NATO’s peace enforcement mission for about a year. After reconnaisance and sniper training, Whittaker served as an assistant team leader near Ramadi, Iraq, in 2005-06. The 104th worked with Army, Marine, SEAL, and Iraqi Army units doing surveillance and intelligence gathering. He left the guard as a sergeant. His quilt was pieced by MaryJean Bower, quilted by Debbie McHugh, and awarded by Bower and Jim and Bonnie Fiedler, all members of the Columbia County Quilts of Valor.
