Bucknell president acknowledges high cost of education

Posted: Tuesday, March 19, 2013 8:02 am | Updated: 8:28 am, Wed Mar 20, 2013.

LEWISBURG — Bucknell University President John Bravman recently had an extended talk with Standard Journal Staff Writer Matt Farrand. Their wide-ranging conversation opened with a reference to a Newsweek article that caused a stir nationwide last year when it asked whether a college education was a good investment. The piece cited debt incurred by parents and students, and whether a college degree truly improves the chances of getting a good job.

Bravman said queries about the value versus the cost of a bachelors degree are now heard in increasing numbers. But the questions could be asked, both of private universities like Bucknell, and public colleges.
